Welcome to St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

St Joseph’s is small in size, mighty in spirit!!

We are a single stream school situated in the inner North Canberra suburb of O’Connor, a short distance from the CBD in a leafy tranquil setting. There are approximately 190 children attending our school. After school and holiday care is provided by the YMCA. Morning supervision starts at 8.20am.

Throughout the school community there is a strong sense of family, warmth, caring and spirituality. Our buddy system ensures that the younger children have an older child who looks after them.

Jesus Christ is at the centre of the life of our school family and our curriculum.

We aim to educate the whole child: academically, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Our Key Learning areas form part of an integrated curriculum. We also provide an extensive programme which encourages family involvement. These include: sacramental programs; special education support; private music lessons; school band; study of Italian culture; and a specialist computer and technology teacher. There are banks of computers in all classrooms, interactive whiteboards in most classrooms, digital cameras and movie making equipment.

Other pursuits include sports such as softball, netball and soccer, as well as inter-school sport. There is an annual swimming program offered. Swimming, cross-country and athletics carnivals are held each year.

Our pro active Student Representative Council enables the children to contribute to the decision making in the school. It also allows the children to become active members of the wider global community by fundraising to help when national and international disasters occur, and when worthy causes arise.

We are fortunate to have an active P&F and School Board who share much time and effort in fund-raising, family gatherings and social get-togethers that enriches our family atmosphere.

Our dedicated staff are wholly committed to the development of confident, independent children, privileged to foster their education and guide them on their faith journey. There is a good balance of male and female teachers with 3 out of 8 classes having a male teacher.
